Since its opening in October 2012, over 2 million visitors from around the globe have visited the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial in Washington DC. Located between the Jefferson and Lincoln Memorials, the King Memorial includes the Mountain of Despair, through which visitors enter; the Stone of Hope where Dr. King’s image emerges; and the Inscription Wall where fourteen of Dr. King’s quotes are engraved on a 450-foot crescent shaped granite wall. The design elements affirm four themes of Dr. King’s message: justice, democracy, hope and love.
